Grade fours should complete one Word Work unit per week. Each unit involves reading, expanding vocabulary, a writing assignment connected to the reading and an editing exercise. When students are working on Word Work lessons, they know that the words are only used once in each activity. The strategy for independent success is to fill in the words that make sense. If you can not figure out which word fits, leave it until the end. There will be less words to try at the end. "Use what yo know to figure out what you don't know." Always review what you do! For example, reread the completed story. If it does not make sense, something is wrong, fix it!
