The Grade 4 class is practicing strategies for the recall of basic multiplication facts. They are also exploring measurement. The students continue to develop number sense and mental math strategies.
They are enjoying a web based math program called Moby Math. The students can access and work on this site at home through the classroom website.
The Jump Math booklets include instruction and examples that explain and show what to do. Figuring out (understanding) instruction is good learning. Rather than giving your child answers, please help them make sense of the instruction.
By now, your child should have good recall of basic facts in addition and subtraction up to 18. They should also recall multiplication facts to 7X7 by the end of grade four. Multiplication facts are generally weak. Practice, practice, practice repeated addition, groups of and patterns in multiples. If you can play card games to reinforce the facts that is best. You could have your child create flashcards or dice games (roll the dice and multiply the numbers rolled, flip two card and multiply the two numbers, etc).
I have also send home a variety of math games to reinforce concepts. Please play with your children!
